Let me start off by saying that the idea for this survey was not 100% my idea. You can thank my dad for this as he was helping me with my “studies on criminal behavior” test question by referring to Disney princesses and Hannah Montana. I don’t know exactly where he was going with it, but the idea for an early 2000s girl study as my next article almost simultaneously came to our minds.
I did not know this study was going to be such a hit as I wasn’t expecting many responses. My dad texted me a few times a day to know how many participants had answered, and the responses consistently flourished. I had to close the survey in order to write about the results, but let me put out a few disclaimers before I go any further:
- The survey received 134 responses. I was expecting like a maximum of 50.
- I posted the survey on my Twitter, my sorority’s page, my personal Facebook, Her Campus UT’s Facebook group, and the UT Class of 2018 page in order to be as unbiased of a participant pool as possible.
- I cannot account for anyone who may have answered the survey multiple times, any boys who thought it would be funny, or any girls who are not between the ages of 17 and 24 (which was my cutoff—yeah I’m talking to you Mom).
- I myself did not answer the survey so that my choices wouldn’t alter the results, but I will tell you my vote at the end of each question breakdown.
And now that the scientific crap is over, here’s the fun part:
QUESTION ONE: Who is your favorite Disney Princess?
- Cinderella at 35 (26.1%)
- Belle and Ariel both at 34 (25.4%)
- Mulan at 12 (9%)
- Sleeping Beauty and Jasmine both at 7 (5.2%)

My answer: I didn’t like any of these because I used to buy tiny, one inch tall, fuzzy bears from the craft store and build them villages out of sticks and leaves instead…
After reading these results, I was as surprised as I’m sure some of you all are. There are some answers that I knew would win by a landslide, like Bubbles as the best Powerpuff Girl and Webkinz as the best online game. There are also options I thought would do better than they did. I really thought Ice Princess would get more votes, and I also thought that the jean skirt over leggings trend would win. In the end, I learned a lot about what I liked as a child compared to some of the other females around me. It’s amazing how different each and every one of us is, but we should cherish our differences and our childhood memories!
