Okay, I was being a little dramatic in the title. Lo-fi music didn’t necessarily SAVE my grades; however, it did help me focus when I was in a huge study slump!

Has someone ever told you to listen to classical music while you do homework or study?

Yea, me too. And I’ve tried it. It’s definitely not for me. I also had a hard time listening to regular music when I was studying. The musicians singing were always too distracting for me.

After a while, I couldn’t really find a type of music that allowed me to focus on my homework while simultaneously motivating me to keep working. I started to just study in silence, which was honestly really boring.

When I found out what lo-fi music was, this all changed for me. Lo-fi music stands for low-fidelity music. Lo-fi usually contains “imperfections” that other types of music don’t have. These imperfections can be hissing or vinyl cracking noises. Lo-fi doesn’t have any words and is merely just music and sounds that go along with a catchy beat.

So, what’s so special about lo-fi? Honestly, I’m not really sure! In my opinion, lo-fi music can help reduce stress and enhance focus.

I mainly listen to/watch Lofi Girl on YouTube. Lofi Girl is an animation of a girl studying that plays on a loop. Lo-fi music plays along with the video, simulating that Lofi Girl is listening to it as she’s studying. Many people (including me) play this 24/7 YouTube live in the background while they study or do homework.

With finals week coming up, lo-fi music will pretty much be playing in the background during my study sessions 24/7.

Although it’s not for everyone, I highly recommend you check it out! If you’re like me and can’t focus when listening to “normal” music, I think you’ll like lo-fi!

I’ve linked some of my favorite playlists (and the Lofi girl live stream) below!
