As someone who has lived in Florida their whole life, it can be hard to get into the Fall spirit while living here. When in a state of near-constant summer, we don’t get the same experiences as others. Leaves don’t really change; we still experience high temperatures, and there is little opportunity to enjoy a cup of hot apple cider outside without going inside immediately to sit in front of your fan and have a glass of cold water. But there are still ways to get into the autumn mood.

One of my favorite things to do during the fall is bake—grocery stores like Trader Joe’s offer special seasonal products that are easy and delicious to make. For example, baking a loaf of pumpkin bread or making some apple cider donuts is a fun way to get into the season. Filling your home with the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin is an instant mood booster. If you’re not much of a baker, you can achieve this by buying scented candles or air fresheners. Decorating your home with festive colors and comfy blankets and pillows is also a way to bring fall into your home. Warm colors can easily be added around to get you into the spirit. Changing the usual decoration for festive ones is always a favorite in my household. Also, watching movies is fun. Movies set in the fall, like When Harry Met Sally (1989), and others like Practical Magic (1998) and Scream (1996), are great to watch with family and friends. Imagine sitting down with a piece of pumping bread, cuddled with a fluffy blanket while watching your favorite fall movie, and you’ll forget it’s 90 degrees outside. Overall, though it might seem difficult at first, it can be easy to incorporate fall themes into your everyday life while living in Florida.
