Real Talk On Valentine’s Day:

If you’re single, Valentine’s Day is just like any other day. However, every store is marketed as catering towards couples with all of their Valentine’s Day-themed stock. Additionally, couples are extra lovey-dovey and throw their romance in others’ faces. Valentine’s Day is a way for stores to jack up prices on items that seem romantic, like chocolate and flowers, and they make a lot of money on simple goods. However, some restaurants offer prix fixe menus, which could seem like a deal to couples, but they receive tons of business on Valentine’s Day, so it’s not really hurting them. Personally, I think Valentine’s Day is over-exaggerated. Your partner should not need a day to remind them that they should do nice things for you, like buy you flowers and chocolates. Additionally, you should constantly be taken on dates, getting gifts, and treated nicely by your partner, not just for one singular Day that everyone in a relationship celebrates. Although I think Valentine’s Day is irrelevant, if your partner doesn’t ask you to be their valentine or they don’t plan anything, not even a movie night in, they are not the one. Since Valentine’s Day falls in February, the February rule piggybacks off of that. So, if your partner isn’t planning anything and you guys break up, the relationship is permanently ended, and if you enter a new relationship during February, that is apparently your soulmate. I’m not sure if I believe the February rule; I just think people like to chalk February up to be this month of “love” that it really isn’t. If you have plans this Valentine’s Day, whether it be a date night, a single ladies’ night, or you are treating yourself, enjoy it. Even though it’s meant to be a holiday focused on couples which may not apply to you, love who you’re spending that time with.
