Tis the season to be festive! With Halloween kicking off the holiday season this past Tuesday, we have arrived to the best part of the year: The Holiday Season. I am a huge fan of all the holidays. Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, and New Years are some of my favorite times to eat, drink, and spend time with family. During the Holiday Season, there are a slew of movies that constantly play on TV that most all Americans are accustomed to. The following movies are some of the most overrated and underrated holiday movies. Now, this is my opinion. It’s okay if you disagree with me. You can just exit out now before I ruin your day. (:

Overrated:

Hocus Pocus:

Hocus Pocus is a classic movie, don’t get me wrong, but like it is so overplayed. This past Halloween season, Hocus Pocus was probably played every night on Freeform. It turned on the TV, and it was playing. Hocus Pocus was cool when I saw it for the first time when I was younger, but now that I am older, I realize the acting terrible. All of the characters are so annoying and the whole plot makes me angry. I watched the whole movie once this Halloween season, but I was so over it once is played again right after.

Elf:

I know Elf is one of the most popular holiday movies, but I hate it so much. The first time I saw it, it was cute. The jokes were funny. The snowball fight scene was classic. Now that I am older and the movie is 14 years old, the jokes are old. Will Ferrell as Buddy is one of the most annoying characters in film history. His fake enthusiasm and ignorance makes me crazy. I try to avoid watching Elf every holiday season. Not a lot of people like my opinion about Elf, but I don’t care. It’s extremely overrated and over played. BYE!

The Polar Express:

The Polar Express is not overplayed by any means, but I don’t understand why it is so popular. It came out when I was younger, and I had no interest in seeing it then. Reading the book as a kid, I loved it. The movie was creepy, and none of the characters are likeable. I think they totally missed the plot of the book. I tried to watch it when I was older, but I couldn’t get through the whole thing. So bad.

Underrated:

The Nightmare Before Christmas:

I know this movie is extremely popular, and it’s popular for a good reason. This movie is a masterpiece. The songs are well done, the animation is spectacular, and the plot is super interesting. This movie never gets old. Such a classic!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (with Jim Carey):

I remember when I saw this movie in the theaters. I liked it then. The pretty colors and the songs were aesthetically pleasing as a kid. Now that I am older, I still love this movie. I now understand the adult humor that is in the movie, and it makes the movie 10x better. A Christmas Story:

This movie is a real classic. Ralphie is a hilarious character, and the narrator being a grown man’s voice makes his character that much better. The jokes never get old, and the plot is interesting. I definitely try to watch this movie at least once per holiday season.
