what’s the difference when you hear it all the time from peers, but somehow you’re still not enough for superiors
too MUCH
“you’re just TOO much”

i whisper from inside my head

echoes around my head while i try to explain
i thought
i was being nice i say again
but this time i say it out loud
begging
because i don’t UNDERSTAND

THOUGHT i was being nice just like the last time we hung out
was that a lie
did we not have a good time
was i actually not nice?
was i a bit much, too much then too
you were just a L I T T L E uncomfortable
A LITTLE UNCOMFORTABLE
a little
a little is too much for me
those two words stop me in my tracks
a little makes me pause because
MAYBE, i’m not nice
MAYBE, i am a bit much, too much
“thanks for telling me” i say
i turn to walk away because i can already tell my reaction is going to be a bit much, too much
and even though i think
think, think, THINK that my reaction is appropriate
i wouldn’t want to make you uncomfortable
even if it’s just a ^LITTLE
