Oh, Autumn! I know everyone and their mother talks about how much they love fall, but I can’t think of a more tranquil time of the year. There is something about the culture of fall with the colors and the somewhat change in weather for Texas that gives my mind a break from everything going on in the world. Autumn reminds me to step back and relax more than any other season of the year. Here are some of my favorite fall things that give me peace.

Fall Movies!!

Living in a place that does not like to change seasons that drastically for fall, movies are the perfect method of transport to somewhere where the leaves actually change. Everyone knows and loves the usual Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, and Harry Potter movie around autumn, but here are some other movies I like. I think anyone trying to get in the spirit can get behind these movies.

  1. Dead Poets Society

The perfect movie for starting the school year again. It is autumn in Vermont and Robin Williams is the new English teacher, Mr. Keating, at Welton Academy. Mr. Keating changes his students’ lives, and he changed mine.

2. Practical Magic

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are witch sisters. I don’t think I need to say anymore to get someone to watch it.

3. Dial M for Murder

Some people might turn away from this movie because it is quite old, but it’s a good classic! If you like a thrill, you should give this Alfred Hitchcock movie a chance.

4. Autumn in New York

It’s Autumn in New York. An older man pines over young, sick Winona Ryder. It sounds weird, but watching it is aesthetically pleasing.

5. Fantastic Mr. Fox

A Wes Anderson film about a fox family in trouble because the deviant father fox. There is Earthy tone sweaters and fall leaves everywhere. It’s quite comedic too.

Baking With Pumpkin is Great and No One Can Tell Me Otherwise!

My favorite treats this fall are these pumpkin cookies I found out about from my mom. The recipe is only two ingredients! The recipe is boxed spice cake mix and pumpkin puree. I especially recommend to my fellow pumpkin bread lovers. If you don’t like pumpkin, just bake those amazing Pillsbury cookies with the pumpkin print on them.

Fall Music!

Throw on a classical autumnal playlist while you’re working or cleaning. Here is a list of my favorites!

  1. Autumn in New York –Billie Holiday
  2. ‘Tis Autumn –Nat King Cole
  3. Autumn Leaves –Doris Day
  4. Early Autumn –Ella Fitzgerald
  5. Autumn in Rome –Patti Page

Give yourself time to enjoy the beautiful things of fall. I’m sure everyone needs it especially this year.
