Over the past few years, I have been trying to understand my music tastes. Some days I would find myself listening to Kelly Clarkson (my idol), Billie Eilish, and $uicideboy$ (really). And while I love sappy love songs and emo rock, I felt like there was a genre out there that perfectly encompassed all my favorite sounds.

And, to my surprise, I finally found it: the perfect playlist. Spotify (the RIGHT way to stream music) cultivates playlists for users based on their listening and recommends bigger playlists on top of those. So, as I was racking up my yearly minutes of listening for my Spotify Wrapped, I discovered Levitate.

Levitate is such a fitting name for this playlist. It has artists like Tame Impala, Billie Eilish, Beach House, and Joji in it, but it’s not just their popular songs. This playlist takes music that literally feels like space and combines them all in one spot.

The instrumentals combine high-pitched bells and trendy beats to make the waviest sensations I could ask for. It’s chill, vibey, and my new favorite playlist. Did I mention it has songs from the Euphoria theme track? If you’re not sold just from reading this, make sure to go listen to the precisely crafted playlist.

Here are my favorite songs from Levitate:
  • I Can’t Handle Change – Roar
    • This has been one of my favorites for a few years now, but how it blends into the other songs makes it feel like a brand-new song that I have the chance to rediscover again.
  • Dark Red – Steve Lacy
    • The symbols go so hard in this song. And don’t even get me started on the lyrics.
  • Apocalypse – Cigarettes After Sex
    • I can’t get enough of this song. It makes me feel like I’m on another planet; it’s a bonus that the lead singer’s voice is so soothing.
And, finally, here are some songs that I think would take this playlist to the next level:
  • Eventually – Tame Impala
  • Altered State of Mind – Milmine
  • Silver Soul – Beach House
