Romanticizing your life means appreciating your day-to-day life, no matter how boring or mundane it may be. And let’s face it, at times, boring and mundane are synonyms with Bryan-College Station. My friends and I have even started using it as a term. “That’s so Bryan-College Station”, we say when looking at long lines at Hurricane Harry’s or people stopping at the University and Texas right-turn lane. “This is SO Bryan-College Station”, we say as we’re stuck behind the train at the George Bush and Wellborn intersection. I mean c’mon, we were just trying to get McDonalds iced coffee.Â
So, how can you romanticize your life in BCS? Here are 5 tips.Â
- It’s all about the music.Â
I repeat, it’s ALL about the music. Pop in your headphones and jam to whatever playlist makes you feel mysterious or whatever feeling you’re going for. Here are some of my playlists for different vibes: being the mysterious girl in the coffee shop, in an art museum, or and so the lion fell in love with the lamb (if you wish you were in Forks, Washington).Â
- Find places in the town that make you feel like you’re somewhere else.Â
Some of my favorites are Brison Park (perfect for a picnic or a game of frisbee), the Lake Walk at the Stella (go read a book next to the lake), Carport (the cutest place to grab a coffee), and Farm Patch (shop local and romanticize grocery shopping).Â
- Make fancy beverages or cook a nice meal.Â
You can romanticize your life from home by making yourself a coffee in the morning or making yourself a nice dinner. My current favorite beverage to make is an iced vanilla chai tea latte. It tastes just like Starbucks but I feel so vibey every time I make it. I use a 1:1 ratio with Tazo Chai Tea Concentrate and 2% milk and add vanilla syrup to taste. Make it even fancier by frothing up some vanilla cold foam (1 tbsp vanilla syrup, 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream, 2 tbsp 2% milk). My favorite meal to make at the moment are taco bowls! Add taco meat, Mexican blend cheese, lettuce, tomato, corn, and avocado to a huge bowl and scoop with lime tortilla chips. If you’re looking for something quicker and slightly easier, fancy up your ramen by adding chopped green onion and a soft boiled egg.Â
- Wear the cute outfit!
We might live in a country college town where the fashion style is either cowboy boots and bootcut jeans or Lululemon leggings and oversized sweatshirts, but if you want to wear a cute outfit, wear the cute outfit! I recently bought an overized blazer with a turtleneck dress that is definitely giving NYC street style (definitely NOT giving Bryan-College Station). I was so worried about wearing it out, but did anyways and honestly had an amazing day. The confidence boost a cute outfit gives you makes your whole day seem not as boring as it could’ve been.Â
- Get out of BCS if you can.Â
One of the best things about living in Bryan-College Station is how close we are to a bunch of bigger cities. It’s about a 2 hour drive to Houston, Waco, and Austin. In each of these cities you can find different vibes, authentic food, and various entertainment. Make day trips if you don’t have a place to spend the night. Split gas with a few friends and enjoy your time!Â
Always remember that you can romanticize your life in any city. Our little college town has a lot of beauty in it, you just need to find it!
