Early spring calls for crawfish boils, celebrating Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day, and Rodeo season.
While most students choose to leave the state to travel for Spring Break, others don’t have the budget or time to go someplace nice where they can relax on a beach or explore a new city. Therefore, I decided to share a few things one can do to spend their Spring Break without leaving or having to travel too far from College Station.
Rodeo Houston or ROdeo Austin
Rodeo Houston is the biggest livestock and rodeo event that offers plenty of things to do during your time off. The Houston Rodeo is located at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas with a rodeo lineup from February 28th to March 19th with music performances from Parker McCollum, Brad Paisley, The Chainsmokers, and more. Not a fan of loud atmospheres? No worries. When the rodeo is in town, so is the carnival and several delicious foods. You can never go wrong with a Texas-sized turkey leg or fried cheesecake on a stick. Rodeo Austin is also happening during Spring Break from March 10th to March 25th with performances from many country singers like Flatland Cavalry, Aaron Watson, Lainey Wilson, and many others.
Crawfish Boils
It ain’t Spring Break if crawfish is not present. With crawfish being the staple for a proper spring in Texas, there is almost no place you can’t find selling crawfish or shrimp and cheap drinks. Crawfish boils are not just about eating good foods; it’s another reason to socialize and hang out with friends.
Mardi Gras In Texas
Although we might not be located in New Orleans, Mardi Gras is celebrated almost anywhere in Texas. Galveston, Texas holds their own annual Mardi Gras event that consists of day drinking and throwing beads along the historical streets of The Strand. For anyone staying near College Station this break, the Shipwreck is hosting a Mardi Gras event with great deals on food and drinks.
sT. Patrick’s Day
As one of the most underrated holidays celebrated, St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect excuse to go out and have fun. Most bars around College Station, especially Northgate, host St. Patrick’ s Day events where they serve green beer along with green themed foods to get you in the Irish spirit.
