BRYAN/COLLEGE STATION, November 11, 2022 – This past weekend Bryan Police Department received reports of sexual assaults across the neighboring residencies near the city’s bar district, Northgate. Due to the proximity to the Texas A&M University campus, students and local law enforcement are taking precautions to increase safety and surveillance of the surrounding areas.
Bryan Police Department issued statements beginning November 7th regarding the situation, including this thread of Tweets that continues to be updated as the situation unfolds:
In the same thread, BPD said, “The Bryan Police Department has extra patrols in this area along with other tactical techniques to help identify and arrest this suspect. These steps will continue until the suspect is arrested. The suspect is described as a black male, medium to athletic build, 5’6” to 6’0 tall. Due to the suspect being at large, we encourage our community to ensure they secure their home, including locking their doors.”
A statement from the University Police Department was issued earlier this week to address concerns that the attacks occurred on campus. This comes after multiple other alleged reports began circulating on social media and group messages among students. In response, UPD says “we are immediately increasing our security presence on campus and looking at other steps we can take to keep everyone safe. This includes reminding everyone of the resources available on campus and personal safety tips.” Below is the list of resources and tips provided by the UPD statement:
- Corps Escorts are available by calling the Guard Room at 979-845-6789 when walking alone at night. This phone number is also located on the back of your Student ID.
- Download the Code Maroon App and utilize the Friend Walk feature if off campus.
- Blue Light phones are located across campus and can be used to call first responders in an emergency.
- Remember to always lock your doors and windows.
- Stay alert and aware of your surroundings.

Additionally, the Corps of Cadets has increased its capability to provide escorts for students walking alone at night on campus. In an interview with KBTX, Corps Commander Grayson Winchester said, “leaders are anticipating the program to surpass 100 calls in a night. ‘We’ve adapted to the needs, and we’ll continue to adapt as those needs become present.’ “Winchester says what used to be maybe 15 calls a night, has turned into over 70.” (Read full KBTX article here.)
