As the end of the semester starts speeding up and homework, assignments, and studying all come tumbling down, I like to find joy in the little everyday things I do to remind myself a bad grade is not the end of my career and certainly not the end of the world. When I’m feeling overwhelmed and stressed, I know I can count on these small things to make me smile.
The squirrels on campus
I like to give each of my furry little friends a different name as I walk by them on my way to class. The squirrels on campus are so entertaining and friendly. They’re not scared of me like the squirrels back home. One day, I was sitting in the academic plaza, and I saw some acorns on the ground, so I tried feeding them to the squirrels. I was able to remain a close distance from my little friend, but I don’t think he realized I was holding an acorn. I gently tossed it into his general vicinity, and he picked it up and started eating it. That was probably the last time I will do that because I was getting some interesting looks from people passing by and I don’t want to start attracting squirrels when I stroll through campus.
Checking the weekly Crumbl menu
I know I’m not going to ever buy them because Crumbl is a little too far off campus for me and too expensive, but just knowing what the flavors of the week are brings me so much joy. Also the pictures of the cookies on their website look really scrumptious, so I can imagine what they would taste like. It’s also like how I watch baking videos with zero intent to bake.
The sound of my footsteps in the MSC Flagroom
There truly is no other place on campus like the Flagroom. Whenever I walk in, I feel like I’ve been transported to somewhere out of a movie. I love hearing the sound of heels clacking on floors in general, but the experience is so much better with the wooden floors and chandeliers of the Flagroom.
