With homecoming fast approaching, now’s the time to start the planning process if you’re anticipating having an awesome weekend full of beer, football and TCNJ school spirit. I don’t know about you collegiettes, but after having the time of my life last year at my first TCNJ homecoming as a transfer student, I’ve been pumped for the tailgate and after parties since the October 20 date was set. Whether you’re hosting a party or attending one this Saturday, here are some homecoming tunes that will get you into the TCNJ spirit and into your dancing shoes!
- Die Young by Ke$ha. “Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young!” Leave any drama back at your dorm and channel your inner lion by tailgating with the rest of the College. Rawr!
- Some Nights by Fun. “Some nights I wish that this all would end, ‘cause I could use some friends for a change.” Despite the pressure from midterms and lengthy papers, grab your best friends and support your team! Homecoming only happens once, so don’t miss out.
- Diamonds by Rihanna. “So shine bright, tonight you and I. We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky.” Now’s your chance to experiment with glitz, glam and sparkle right before Halloween. Swipe some glitter on your nails, streak some gold in your hair or rock your favorite pair of diamond studs to shine bright in the parking lots, stands, and at after parties.
- Live While We’re Young by One Direction. “Yeah, we’ll be doing what we do, just pretending that we’re cool, so tonight let’s go crazy, crazy, crazy till we see the sun.” Even though they’re boy-bandy, their lyrics say it all. It’s a fun, catchy tune to get you in the celebratory mood.
- Good Time by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen. “Hands up if you’re down to get down tonight,‘cause it’s always a good time.” With the DJ blasting on campus this Saturday, grab your friends and the cute boy you’ve been eyeing up all semester to bust a move and just have a great time out there in Lot 4.
- Don’t Wake Me Up by Chris Brown. “Been awake for some days now, no time to sleep. So much life in this city, you won’t believe.” Ok, so even though the title might sound apropos for Sunday morning after attending all the after-parties, you can apply these lyrics to game day as well. This week will likely be filled with late-night study sessions and crammed assignments in an effort to clear our Saturdays for the festivities, but it’ll be so worth it when you see how alive our TCNJ campus will be while rooting for our team!
- Finally Found You by Enrique Iglesias. “In this crazy world of choices, I’ve only got a few.?Either you’re coming with me, or I’m coming with you.” If you plan on drinking at the tailgate or at any after-parties, be sure to stay close to the group of friends you showed up with so you keep each other safe. Always use the buddy system, especially this weekend with a packed campus.
- Let’s Get it Started by Black Eyed Peas. “We got five minutes for us to disconnect from all intellect, collect the rhythm effect. Obstacles are inefficient, follow your intuition, free your inner soul and break away from tradition.” College is all about studying hard and earning exceptional grades, so use this Saturday as a day to unwind and break up the monotony of your studies. Homecoming is TCNJ’s biggest school-spirit day of the year, so don’t use homework as an excuse to stay in your dorm all day. Come see what it’s all about.
- Born This Way by Lady Gaga. “Don’t hide yourself in regret, just love yourself and you’re set. I’m on the right track, baby. I was born this way.” Forget any of the negative things that might have brought you down this semester or your past years at TCNJ. The day will surely raise your spirits and put you in a positive mood that’ll set you up for success. Dance and sing like no one’s watching! You were born this way, collegiette.
- I Love College by Asher Roth. “I love college. Do I really have to graduate or can I just stay here for the rest of my life?” My thoughts exactly. I love you, lions!
