Everyone knows the song, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, but not many nowadays can say that they know who Queen is, why Freddie Mercury was so popular in the 1970s and 1980s, songs by the infamous rock group other than “We are The Champions” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
I may not be the biggest Queen fan out there, but as a longtime fan of classic rock and an avid listener of Queen, this movie was on my radar.

The movie primarily focuses on Freddie Mercury’s life – starting with Mercury’s desire to be in a band. While I am not here to spoil the movie, I will give tidbits on my favorite aspects and reasons why anyone could easily find themselves to love this movie and really connect with it even they don’t know who Queen is.
This movie not only has great cinematic aspects, but it also captivates the real essence of Freddie Mercury. For those who don’t know, Freddie Mercury was well known for being flamboyant, his overbite, and his incredibly talented songwriting and vocals. Not only does Rami Malek, the actor who plays Freddie Mercury, capture his essence perfectly, but he does an amazing job of making the audience question whether or not they re-incarnated Freddie Mercury and gave Rami Malek credit for it.
There is so much emotion that was put into this movie. The movie doesn’t sugar coat anything and primarily sticks to the true story behind the band. The storyline is raw and goes behind the scenes of a band that everyone loves. Even if you’re a Queen/Freddie Mercury superfan, this movie brings to light the reality that one of their biggest song hits, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, might not have been in existence if the band listened to their first record producer.
Even if you have no interest in who Queen is or don’t care about their story, anyone who watches this movie is guaranteed to leave with a burst of inspiration, whether it be through the creative and beautifully produced movie or through the underlying theme: to always follow your heart even when those around you might not support it. This movie has not only become a fan-favorite of mine but also those who saw the movie and loved Queen beforehand and those who didn’t quite listen to their music. This was an extraordinary film that you do not want to miss!!
