We’ve finally reached the tail end of the semester, and we couldn’t think of a better way to end the year than to leave incoming and returning students with a few pieces of advice on what to bring back to school in the fall.
Fall is a time for fresh beginnings, pumpkin spiced lattes, and adorable comfy fashion. While some of our back-to-school must-haves include backpacks and other school supplies, we mustn’t forget the ever-changing fall fashion! HCTCNJ was able to talk to Campus Style writer for The Signal, Jillian Greene, to get her take on what to bring back to school this coming fall semester.
1. What are some important and trendy items to have coming back to school in the fall?
Coming back to school in the fall is always an exciting time. Packing at home, we never forget to bring back all the new fashion purchases we accumulated over the summer. We start to see the new and upcoming trends for the fall during the summer. I advise you during the upcoming months to keep your eyes peeled for a few trendy items that are a must. Here are a few important ones you don’t want to forget about…
1. White Adidas sneakers. If you don’t have a pair, get them- you know you want them. I tried to convince myself I didn’t want these because I try not to be so basic, but the more I see them, the more I NEED them, and I know you do too.
2. For the ladies, I’m non-stop seeing more and more bralettes. Why? Well for starters, they are much more comfortable than regular bras. Secondly, they’re cuter, and you won’t be judged if the straps show because they’re meant to.
3. As for color, the 2015/2016 fashion shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, revealed to us the number one color trend of 2016 which is stormy weather. This dark grey color is neutral yet vibrant in its own way. I won’t doubt that this fall we will be seeing a lot more of this color around campus.
2. Would you say there is a formula or strategy to following or even predicting future trends?
I wouldn’t say there is a particular formula for staying trendy. However, reading fashion columns is a must. If you’re not a big reader, then at least do yourself a favor and pick up a fashion magazine. You don’t want to be stuck in last year’s trends. Although it’s hard to keep up with fashion when we’re busy with school and other activities, even visiting fashion sites like Sabo-skirt, Mura-boutique, or Tobi will most definitely help you and your wardrobe stay up-to-date.
3. What are your tips for the people interested in following trends?
My fashion tips: Along with visiting the few sites I mentioned before, read campus style, every week there’s a new fashion article put out! Also, don’t overlook your fellow classmates… Be observant, we have a lot of fashionista’s here at the College who you can get great ideas from!
4. And when asked what trend she hopes to see go in 2016, here’s what she had to say.
I hate to say this because I know many of my peers who love the trend of the “lace-up” shirts, but in my opinion, it needs to go. Whenever I see it, it reminds me of lacing up a sneaker…
