Now that it is post-daylight savings time, we’re undoubtedly in sweater weather. However, sweaters are not the only noteworthy fall style trend out there. Here are some other trends to inspire your sweater weather outfits.
Oversized sweaters
Of course, we can’t begin without the beloved oversized sweater. They’re soft, comfy and can be dressed up or down depending on what you pair them with. While not seen on the runways exactly, they’re certainly a staple in every collegiate’s wardrobe.
Animal prints
Animal prints appear to have taken over the runways over the last fashion week. While they are endorsed by high profile designers such as Calvin Klein and Givenchy, this is a bold print for the average person to wear on the streets. If you’re going to go for it, you do you. But keep in mind that some runway styles do make it to the streets, but others, not so much.
Plaid
By no means is it surprising to hear that plaid is in trend. I don’t think it ever really does go out of style. The fashion world has formally approved your go-to plaid flannel shirt. You can definitely experiment with pairing your shirt with a denim skirt. If you’re a bit more adventurous, however, you can look at plaid miniskirts, jackets or even handbags.
Ankle length skirts
You can find skirts of almost any length, from miniskirts to midis, to maxis. But now, you can add the ankle length skirt to your collection. This style captures the formality and elegance of maxi skirts without hiding your shoes. For those of you with smaller statures (like myself), this is a great alternative to keep from drowning in the maxi skirt.
Straight leg jeans
The straight leg/ boot cut/mom jeans are another trend that is not strictly attached to this Fall’s styles. It’s a step away from ultra skinny cuts, reflecting a broader trend of looser silhouettes. Pair them with a fitted bodice or crop top if you’d rather shy away from the shapeless looks.
80’s Throwback
Another one of the runway trends that may or may not make it to street style completely. Bold shoulders and leather are some of the indicators of the trend. Some throwback styles are showing in statement earrings and crossovers with Western inspired themes.
Shearling layersTake a walk outside and you will pass multiple people wearing the fluffy, oversized teddy bear jackets. They’re probably the most street style version of the shearling layers seen on the runway. Designers have been layering oversized jackets with anything, including other layers underneath.
Statement boots
They could be knee-high boots, bright white ankle boots, red leather kitten heels or even cowboy boots. They pair well with mini skirts, ankle length skirts or under wide leg trousers.
Perhaps some of these trends will influence your buying decisions this season, but maybe they won’t. Maybe you’ve been inspired to pursue some adventurous trend that you normally wouldn’t have, or maybe you think the fashion industry displayed some poor tastes. Whatever your take-away is from these trends, I hope you stay warm and stylish this season.
