Gucci’s current designer, Alessandro Michele, brought something unique to the runway this season with his bright, sparkling and 70’s inspired looks. The models sported oversized glasses and one model had her hair styled in a bowl cut. Michele is quick to point out however that it is not nostalgia he is after, but a twist on the past. He didn’t want to recreate what was popular 40 years ago, he wanted to build on it and make something completely new. Through his use of vivid colors, beautiful materials, and modern accents, he proved to be quite successful.
Some motifs I noticed throughout the 65 looks Michele created were, neck ties, neck bows, ruffles, big chunky heels, the famous green and red Gucci stripes, cartoon ruffles, and map prints on skirts. The variety of fabric used was strategically placed. From chiffon to silk, to knits and leather, Michele brought all of these textures together through the use of color and pattern. The beauty looks were simple to balance out the loud outfits.
Michele truly did an impressive job and the work on these beautiful garments must have taken months. He is working to expand Gucci to make it more than the classic style previous designer, Frida Giannini had been known for. Alessandro Michele is ready to take Gucci to the next level.
