Expressing yourself through your style in college can be fun and exciting, and wanting to experiment with new trends or continue to develop your own wardrobe is expected and embraced. But when you’re working with a college budget, adding to your wardrobe isn’t always feasible.
So what can you do when you feel like there is nothing to wear?
Here are my favorite ways to become re-inspired with your wardrobe.
• Take a look at everything you have. Yes, everything. If you don’t keep all of your clothing in the same place this is especially important because it is easy to forget about items you don’t see on a regular basis. You may very well discover a hidden gem to wear in your dorm!
• Remember why you bought certain things in the first place. At one time you must have seen something in each garment you own so it can be as easy as reminding yourself what that is to feel re-inspired. Notice the detailing on that blouse or the buttons on those jeans and fall in love with them again.
• Try new combinations. Everyone is guilty at some time or other of getting into a rut with the outfits she wears. If you’ve always paired that top with that skirt, try something else! Wear it with jeans and layer on a jacket. Take a completely new approach to your outfits and you’ll find more combinations then you imagined you had. Getting inspiration from Pinterest is especially helpful in this endeavor.
• Explore your accessories. If you have some bracelets, scarves, and necklaces pull them out and see what you can do with them! Just like trying new combinations with your actual clothing, use accessories to change up your standby outfits.
While these may seem like simple suggestions, they can help you see your wardrobe through new eyes. Make a serious effort to be creative and you’ll find that you already have a lot of material to work with. College is the time to have fun with your style (but not break the bank in the process!).
