Curtain bangs have been revived! All over my feed I see celebrities (Sabrina Carpenter specifically!) with perfectly styled bangs that frame their face effortlessly, which then inspires girls- like myself- to try them out. But be warned, once you do make the chop, you realize you have to work to get them looking like that. Otherwise they just end up sitting awkwardly around your face.

Here are some styling tips to help you!

Rollers

Take a triangle section of hair from the top of your head (can be damp or dry). and brush out your bangs. Then take one large roller (I personally use velcro rollers) and place it at the bottom of the triangle section underneath the hair. Roll it up and make sure it’s secure. I like to leave this overnight and take it out in the morning. Since it’s only one roller sitting on top of your forehead it isn’t uncomfortable to sleep in no matter what sleeping position you prefer.  I have tried doing this on wet hair in the morning and then blow drying my bangs, and the results did not compare in the slightest.

Flat Iron Curls

I personally do not own a curling iron. No particular reason as to why, but I feel I can achieve the same curls with my flat iron when needed. If you want to try this method, put heat protectant on your bangs and section them on either side of your face. Take smaller sections (1-3 depending on your hair or preference) on each side.Place the flat iron at the top of your hair and slowly turn it as you move down your hair. It may be helpful to use a hair protectant in the form of an oil to help with the glide. Feel free to brush out these curls to make them looser. If I curl my bangs this way I either like to put my hair up in a ponytail and just leave out the front strands, or I’ll make sure the rest of my hair is wavy or curled.

Braiding

If you want to do something fun you can always braid two sections of your curtain bangs on either side of your face. It is best to take a small section so that the braids are thinner. I think this can be a really fun idea for special occasions or holidays, where you can  bejewel the braided pieces of your hair. With the rise of Y2K style, hair bedazzlers like the Blinger tool have been trending. My sister got one around the holidays and the gems really elevated our Christmas Day looks. If you’re not feeling the gems you can try braiding in tinsel or a ribbon to add some extra flare.

There are so many ways to curl and style your curtain bangs, these are just some of my personal favorites. If you choose to use a curling iron, I would recommend using a larger barrel to get loose curls that frame the face. If you want curtain bangs but don’t always want the effort of styling them, getting layers would probably make the most sense so that your bangs look cohesive with the rest of your hair no matter how they are styled.
