We had a hard time deciding if Kevin Shaw should be featured as Campus Celebrity or Campus Cutie, and with just one glance at his picture we think you’ll know why.
But there’s so much more to our soccer captain than his good looks and charming personality. Not only has the senior math major racked up four goals this early in the season, he was also just our featured athlete of the week.
In the Drew Fall Festival two weeks ago, Kevin scored the game-winning goal against Western Connecticut State to carry his team to victory. And this win was no walk in the park either.
“This was the second day of a tournament and it was really hot outside so the combination of that made us work even harder to score. Once we did it made the rest of the game a lot easier,” says Kevin.
But with hard work and determination, the Lions pushed through the obstacles and ultimately came out on top.
Even though the team captain says he loves the sport for plenty of reasons, he claims that being a part of the team is his favorite part.
“I love playing soccer and doing it with all of my teammates makes it that much better,” he says.
And it’s perfectly clear that his teammates feel the same way about him. Kevin, or “Shawdog”, as his teammates call him off of the field, is excited to fulfill his role as a leader of the team but also calls it “bittersweet” knowing it’s his last year playing.
The TCNJ senior started playing at the young age of six, and he has come a long way since then. As a junior, he was an honorable mention for the 2011 NJAC Men’s Soccer All-Star team, and his success story is still far from over. He has his sites set on the making the conference tournament at the end of the season, and aims to “win the NJAC and make a run in the national tournament.”
In the mean time, be sure to come cheer on Shawdog and the Lions at their next game against FDU this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Lion’s Stadium!
