Petitions, editorials in The Signal and so many @TCNJproblems.
Lots of students and alumni are in an uproar about the changes made to Homecoming this year, which were created in order to lessen the ârave-like atmosphere.â
Even after all the complaints, the outlook may not change for Homecoming 2013. Â
Like it or not, the tailgate this year is different. Instead of the free-for-all boozefest we are all accustomed to, everyone must wear a wristband — to the utter dismay of those under 21. Cars are not permitted in the lots. And finally, instead of people bringing speakers and playing their own music, the cover band Drop Dead Sexy will play.Â
But we are not bitter. Because Homecoming 2013, whatever the restrictions, is our Homecoming. So here are a few helpful hints to make your day memorable.
Work that Blue and Gold.
Homecoming is the best time to strut those TCNJ colors and that snazzy new pinny from the TCNJ bookstore. Make your way to the clearance rack or wait for sale signs to pop up to get  a great deal.
Ain’t nothing like Cornhole.
There is something special  and âso collegeâ about tossing a bean bag in a small hole nine-yard away. Gather your friends and have a cornhole tournament. Winner has to run around yelling âI am Roscoe hear me Roar.â
Donât let no DJâs stop you from rocking out. Â
Drop Dead Sexy could actually be drop dead amazing, despite the YouTube video of the lead singer wearing a white wig and performing Lady Gaga that may make you think otherwise.
But if you still want to listen to your tunes and stay within the speaker limitations, check out the âpillâ from Beats by Dr. Dre. You might have seen it in Miley Cyrusâ music videos, but donât let that discourage you. This bluetooth stereo device lets you blast grooves from the palm of your hand. Â
Watch the game
Itâs no secret that TCNJâs football games are not usually popular, but I am a firm believer that school spirit makes a team play their best. So, put on some face paint and find a spot in the bleachers and cheer on our Lions as they play SUNY Morrisville. Who knows, maybe you will find our new campus cutie on the football field!
Make new friends and keep the old
Probably the best thing about Homecoming is that it doesnât stop when you leave. TCNJ Homecoming can always be a part of your life, if you choose. Wherever you go in life, you can always come back to place you called home for four years (or five or six). Â Â Â
This year, say hi to the friends who graduated before you and treasure the friends you have that are still here. Whatever the changes bring this year, Homecoming is still Homecoming.
