When you’re as busy as Kyra Mackesy , you have to make every minute count. Armed with her laptop and a Red Bull, this senior is unstoppable.
From the moment Kyra arrived at TCNJ, she hit the ground running. Kyra is a senior from River Edge, NJ and a Journalism and Professional Writing major with a minor in Criminology.
Kyra joined Her Campus TCNJ when she was freshman and became an instant leader. She’s held almost every position possible and served as president and Campus Correspondent for a year. Currently, she is the Marketing and Publicity Director for the team.
Kyra is a member of Animal Benefits Club and was their former Vice President and Secretary. She is also a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon, and serves as the Sunshine Chair.
As Sunshine Chair, Kyra brightens up sister’s days with positive messages or thoughtful gifts. This is the perfect job for Kyra, considering her involvement as a “Campus Nice Girl” for Little Words Project at TCNJ. She is the founder of TCNJ’s chapter, which means she helps organize trunk shows, posts on social media and spreads the company’s mantra of kindness.
If you thought the list ended there, think again. On top of her leadership positions and being a full time student, Kyra has been working for Active Interest Media since May 2018. She started as an intern, and now works specifically for Oxygen Magazine and IDEA Health & Fitness Association.
“When my internship ended, my supervisor hired me for a string of small, entry-level positions. Starting January 2019, though, my position title changed to Social Media Manager. I run social media for two magazines across 13 accounts,” says Mackesy. “My position entails much more than just posting on social media – I create weekly newsletters, build digital content, write sponsored content, write articles, program websites and more! But, I work the closest with Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube.”
With all of this on her plate, Kyra says what keeps her going is her determination and drive. “I have goals and keep my eyes set on them. I have a strong desire to learn, and with that I push myself to new heights. You can have a planner, even an agent, but you won’t stay on top of everything you do if you aren’t motivated.”
When Kyra has time to relax you can find her volunteering at an animal shelter, hitting the gym, or advocating for women’s rights. Kyra is also interested in decorating, and loves to shop around at TJ Maxx and Homegoods for new pieces. And when Kyra has time for a much needed vacation, she would love to go back to Key West ,Florida.
Her must watch shows include The Challenge and Ex On The Beach. “I’m obsessed with watching movies and I have a list on my phone of some of the best, ever. They include Secret in Their Eyes, Standoff, Law Abiding Citizen, Split, The Belko Experiment, and Us. Watch them.”
With graduation rapidly approaching, Kyra is looking forward to beginning a new chapter. “I’m excited to graduate! It’s true that graduation forces people to “be adults”, but I feel like I’m ready to dive into the work world and focus more on building my career and life, rather than just preparing for it, which we’ve all been doing since grade school.”
