Say hello to this week’s Campus Celebrity, Michell Lin! Michell is a junior Political Science major and Spanish minor. Not only is she a barista at Starbucks, but she is involved in Alternative Break Club and Student Government. When she’s not playing volleyball, watching history documentaries, cheering on her favorite basketball team, or spending time with her friends, she is busy taking charge in her role as Vice President for Student Services in Student Government.
“I work with the members of my committee to advocate for the student life on campus. We do this by programming, campaigning, and representing the students as a liaison to the resources on campus (Dining Services, PEC Center, I.T., etc.),” Michell says.
Michell and her committee plan Finals Fest, which, she hopes, “provides students with a healthy form of stress relief during their finals.” In addition to Finals Fest, Michell works hard to plan Eickhoff themed dinners, which she says, “stem from a combination of creativity and consideration of what food TCNJ students would really enjoy.”
“It’s really about thinking of new ideas we’ve never done before and bringing them to TCNJ,” Michell says.
Other events that the Vice President for Student Services is involved with include 10 Days of Ewing and co-sponsorships with Blindness Awareness Month and Health Heart Awareness.
This year, Michell has been involved in the planning for Breakfast at T-Dubs during Welcome Week for the Class of 2017 and the Grand Slam dinner themed Eickhoff night. In addition, she helps to co-sponsor Blindness Awareness Month and works closely with I.T. to improve the servers on campus.
When asked to give a sneak peak about events occurring this Finals Fest, Michell said, “I don’t want to give too much away. You’ll have to come out and see for yourself! However, you can always count on free food, giveaways, and massages. To drop a few hints, I’ll just say ‘whales’, ‘theater shows,’ and lots of food!”
As for future plans of action, Michell said that she is currently working on adding mile markers along Metzger Drive for TCNJ runners and to offer incentive to bring more students outdoors.
All that hard work can be exhausting, but Michell says that she loves being Vice President for Student Services because, “there’s so much to learn from the position and so many new faces from both the student body and administration.” She adds, “The work load can get heavy sometimes, but I have a strong team of committee members that are always so hardworking and positive.”
On a final note, Michell says, “This Fall Finals Fest will take place from Monday, December 9th – Friday, December 13th. See you all at the festivities!”
Michell’s leadership and her supportive committee make the TCNJ student body’s experience at TCNJ all the better.
Thanks Michell and a big shout out to SG!
