- aFTER SCHOOL – WEEEKLY
-
Not to say that TikTok has a bit of influence in the songs I find, but it kind of does. This song was definitely all over my FYP a little bit before the summertime, but even long after, I played it quite often. It’s a fun song, and it helped make my walks to work more bearable!
- bUTTER – BTS
-
If there’s one thing BTS are going to do, it’s deliver. I needed a fun summer song? They said “here you go Delia, happy summer”, and for that I say thank you. From the concept photos and the hype prior to the song dropping, and then the music video itself, I won’t be surprised if Butter ends up being the number one song on my Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year. They recently released their remix of the song with Megan Thee Stallion and yes there are in fact two versions of Butter sitting on my playlist right now. (Plus they also released a little performance video featuring j-hope, Jimin, and JungKook where they danced to Meg’s verse, and it is simply everything I needed.
- TE AMO – CALEMA
-
This was another song I found just a little bit before summer began, but there has not been a day that I have not listened to it at least once. Without meaning to, I think I have drifted from my first language and last year I spent that summer listening to old Portuguese songs from my childhood, but I don’t want those to be the only ones I ever listen to. When I was browsing for new music and I found this particular song, I immediately shoved it into a playlist and haven’t stopped listening since.
- Need to KNOW – DOJA CAT
-
There are so many gems in Doja’s album, Planet Her, and I will admit, her song Woman, I Don’t do Drugs ft. Ariana Grande and this song battled it out on my “On Repeat” playlist, but ultimately, this one sits on top. There aren’t a lot of artists who put so much work into their visuals, and sometimes they don’t even put a lot of work into their actual music, but Doja Cat does both and it’s simply fun listening to her music!
- 0x1=lovesong (i know i love you) – tomorrow x together
-
My favorite thing about TOMORROW X TOGETHER is that every era, I tell myself “this is their best work, there’s no way they can top this” and every single time, they do it. Not a single title track has been a miss and the same thing can be said about their b-sides. While it’s not a “summer song” per se (especially when the album is called The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE), it was simply too good for me to neglect it.
- wild side – normani ft cardi b
-
Did Normani leave me for a long period of time after Motivation dropped? Yes. Is she forgiven? Obviously, people can take their time making their work, and I have absolutely no room to judge. *stares at all my unfinished projects* Aside from making such a great song, her dancing as usual, is phenomenal, and I absolutely love watching videos of people doing the choreography!
- MONTERO (CALL ME BY YOUR NAME) LIL NAS X
-
Did I listen to that tiny snippet that was in an ad he was in for months before the song dropped? Yes, I did, which made me kind of scared that I wasn’t going to like the song as much because of how long it had been, but the exact opposite happened. I think I loved the song even more after it dropped. Lil Nas X is also an artist who creates great visuals alongside his music, despite some people thinking it’s controversial, I think he does a great job and I can’t wait to listen to his full album.
- hope ur ok – olivia rodrigo
-
Listen. I’m alright, I promise. While I have not experienced heartbreak from a lover in any capacity, and I’m not going to go into detail about how comforting this album would have been for 17 year old me, I still think that as an adult, there are aspects of some of her songs that I still relate to and can sympathize with.
- Second chance – hsmtmts
-
I have absolutely no explanation for this other than the fact that I needed an easy and comforting show to watch, and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series happened to be that show. Also, this song is great, I feel kind of dramatic singing along to it, especially trying to sing all four parts, but I’m sticking with it.
- fulanito – becky g ft. el alfa
-
I’m gonna say it, but anything Becky G touches, is an absolute hit. Whether it’s a feature or someone else is joining her in a song, I don’t think there has been a time where I haven’t loved the song. She simply makes great summer hits, and I’m gonna need her to bless me with another album in the near future because Mala Santa was excellent and I need more of it.
