From “Tik Tok” to “Die Young” to “Your Love is my Drug”, Kesha knows how to keep things interesting. This year TCNJ held their annual spring concert on April 7, 2017 and Kesha was the headliner. For a lot of people, Kesha brings back middle school and high school jams and they haven’t heard her music in a while. However, tickets were all sold out, and Kesha definitely had stage presence.
She opened up the show with her hit song “We R Who We R.” She interacted with us constantly, and at one point she threw water into the crowd and even began taking off her clothes. The crowd reacted well to her crazy energy and we even got a chance to connect with Kesha.
During her performance, Kesha sang a cover of the song “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore, referencing her lawsuit with her record company. She told the crowd that she had 75 unreleased records because of the lawsuit. This put her music career on a long pause- which explains why we have not heard from her for a while.
Our crowd began chanting “Free Kesha,” and she then took this time to give us all advice to never let anyone own us. As an upcoming senior, this advice meant a lot to me because I will be going out into the real world soon. Lastly, Kesha closed the show performing her hit song “Die Young,” which kept us all dancing.
At the end of her performance, there was an after party where Grooveboston Djs had to follow such a great act. The after party was fun but I will never forget the time I got to see Kesha perform live on stage at TCNJ.
