For TCNJ collegiettes there’s quite a bit that goes into preparing for the first date.’The perfect look: put-together but not trying too hard. The perfect location: not too casual but not too stuffy. The perfect time: not the early-bird special but not the late-night food run.

To think when finally sitting across from your date that the hard part is over, the waitress drops the menu at your table and the daunting task of choosing what to eat comes over you. Do you order the burger and fries you’ve been craving for weeks? The exotic seafood special? Or, as a lady would do, the spinach salad with no cheese and dressing on the side?

Herein lies the problem for collegiettes. We want to come off as healthy, strong, independent women, but we order the most basic, unappetizing, safe dish on the menu.

In our minds, we’re showing our guy that we can overcome even the most tempting of options; our health-conscious ways are unwavering.

Ever thought about what they’re thinking?

The truth is, they’re not appreciating how ‘healthy’ your choice is. “I’m not taking a girl to a nice place to order a salad – that’s what you get with your meal,” said TCNJ senior William Anari.

While staying fit is always an attractive quality among women, TCNJ collegiettes should think twice  about what they are and are not eating with their guys. “If I’m going out to dinner I’m ordering the best thing on the menu and I want to enjoy it. I can’t enjoy a great meal if the girl across the table is shyly picking at her food,” he said.

To prep for the first date, here are a few quick rules:

1. Don’t fill up before you go – you’re eating out!

2. If you know where you’re going, take a look at the menu online ahead of time.

3. Have an idea of what you’re looking for or take a suggestion from your date.

4. Don’t have a clue? Just order the special and you won’t be disappointed.

5. Be confident in what you order – no matter what it is.

Don’t overthink your first date – confidence is sexy. If you want a burger and fries, just go for it.
