Why I Love Being a Low Maintenance Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCNJ chapter.

For someone who plans and works ahead of time for all things academic, I’m often told that I’m ironically lazy when it comes to my day-to-day life. But the way I see it, I function on a go-with-the-flow mode, consciously choosing to make my life easier. Here are some of the reasons why I love being a low-maintenance girl:

Making plans becomes easier

The perfect night out doesn’t have to consist of fancy places and elaborate plans. A simple night in with friends or going out for ice cream suffices. After all, it’s all about finding joy in the little things and going with the flow.

Choosing outfits takes less than 30 seconds

Hoodies. Check! Jeans. Check! Sweats. Check! Being low-maintenance means having a simple wardrobe and coupling the same outfits to put together your look. Most days, getting ready means putting on your favorite jeans and T-shirt.

Doing makeup is rare occurrence

Being low-maintenance teaches you to be comfortable in your own skin. Most days, I walk bare-faced and in my 20 years of existence, an eyeliner is the only makeup product I own.

It saves a lot of time

Being low-maintenance saves one a lot of time. And with that additional time, you can either sleep in for an extra hour in the morning or read the new best-seller. My schedule as a college student is already busy enough so finding those extra few minutes every day to do something I love means a lot.

It’s friendly for the wallet

The best part about being low-maintenance is that you don’t spend a lot on clothes, shoes, and makeup. The saved money can then be put into savings or used to fund academic expenses.

It’s easier to get along with everyone

You’re not picky about the things in life, including people, which makes it easier for you to gel with different personalities and adapt yourself to different groups.
