4 Best Sushi Places in Dallas-Fort Worth

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCU chapter.

With the semester quickly coming into full spring, don’t forget to take time to treat yourself to a good meal every once in a while. Dallas and Fort Worth offer endless options when it comes to food. The cities feature everything from Tex-Mex to American, from French to Asian. Japanese restaurants are rising overnight and establishing their spots as a DFW favorite due to sushi’s light and flavorful nature. Lucky for the TCU campus, sushi joints are just a stone’s throw away.

  1. Shinjuku Station

Located on Magnolia Avenue in Fort Worth, Shinjuku Station is modeled after a Japanese train station and offers an authentic Japanese flavor. This gastropub serves all their dishes in small plates that are meant to be shared, which is perfect for a night out with friends. The chefs’ aim is to feature the fish and therefore emphasize the lack of sauces and cream cheese. The best part about Shinjuku is the dishes they serve in addition to sushi. The hot dishes and appetizers present a unique flavor that is not often seen elsewhere.

  1. Yutaka Sushi Bistro

Uptown Dallas is the holy grail of shopping and food. Nestled in a strip mall on McKinney Avenue is Yutaka Sushi Bistro. Its popularity means that there is never a quiet moment at this restaurant. Everything about Yutaka is intense; its sushi chefs are focused on their jobs and barely acknowledge patrons, but the food they serve reflects their intensity. The presentation of the dishes alone is fascinating but once you get past that, the quality and freshness of the fish will blow your mind. Yutaka serves the freshest fish possible, to the point where the fish literally melts in your mouth. If you want to sushi experience of a lifetime, this tiny little joint is the place to be.

  1. Sushi Sake

If you’re up for a bit of a drive, Richardson features a quaint and traditional restaurant called Sushi Sake. Everything about this family-owned and operated restaurant reflects traditional Japanese culture, including the architecture. For groups of 6 or more, guests dine in a more private room where shoes are required to be removed. The table is raised above a pit and guests sit at the edge of the pit while a kimono clad waitress serves. For those wanting to experience fabulous dining and a different culture, Sushi Sake is your choice.

  1. Blue Sushi Sake Grill

Blue Sushi is already a popular sushi joint thanks to its wonderful happy hour. Its West 7th location is a prime for dinner and going out. The food served here reflects its modern setting. Although traditional and authentic rolls are served here, the star of the show is the twists put on different dishes. Though untraditional, these dishes are a burst of flavor and perfect for those searching for a more American twist on a traditional food.
