7 Reasons to Join Greek Life

Freshmen and transfer students are likely familiar with the sense of wanting to be more involved on campus, but not knowing where to start. There are a number of benefits to getting involved with Greek life by joining a fraternity or sorority.  
 
Looking into the future 
There are in infinite number of opportunities to build a network the moment you graduate because of membership with a Greek organization. At first thought, many might think that sororities and fraternities don’t associate their chapters with the future or their career skills, but Greek life is actually a great place to start learning certain skills that are essentials for any career. By joining Greek life, one can be exposed to different personalities and open them up to diversity, which helps the member to be able to collaborate with different people in the future. Networking is extremely important for one’s career and future. In fact, being part of a Greek organization looks great on a resume! 
 
B.F.F 
Best Friends Forever is possible! Being part of a sorority or a fraternity is a great opportunity to meet the best people you will ever encounter! Because of the multiple commonalities and great memories that are made, you will make lifelong friendships and endless memories with those best friends. You get the opportunity to meet people that you might not have met before. After joining Greek life, you begin to realize the amount of support given by your sisters/brothers. 
 
To stay on track 
Greek life values academics highly and recognize that their members are destined for prestigious success. Greek life encourages its members to stay on track and to thrive in and out of the classroom. In fact, it is proven that those affiliated with Greek life have high GPA’s and value education highly. Affiliated students use the academic skills they develop as part of a Greek organization throughout the rest of their life and in their professional career in the future. Many think that Greek organizations are only involved in social events, but in reality these organizations push their members to be the best they can be!
 
Philanthropy
Each Greek organization has their own philanthropy in which they fundraise and support. Philanthropy is very important because it gives students just another reason to join! If you strongly believe in a certain philanthropy then you can practice that belief with your fellow sisters/brothers!
 
Social activities 
Social outings with your fellow sisters and brothers are a great way to get involved, make new friends and have more fun! Joining Greek life provides a lot of sisterhood and brotherly events for the members to get closer with everyone in their chapter. These events are meant for everyone to hangout and have a great time. There are plenty of additional social events for Greek organizations to take part in and have a great time! 
 
Money, money, money 
Who doesn’t love money? And more importantly, who doesn’t want have a cheaper education? Many Greek organizations provide scholarships, which can be very beneficial for their members.
 
Commitment and leadership
Greek organizations stress the importance of the lifelong commitment involved in Greek life. Joining Greek life is a great way to teach you the importance of commitment to a specific organization. Also, sororities and fraternities give its members the opportunity to take part in leadership roles that interest them. The amount of commitment and leadership involved is great practice for future corporation with others in the work place. At one of our meetings, a national worker for my sorority even compared Greek life to a “business.” Because of the different leadership roles and the commitment of the members, this seemed extremely accurate. Greek life is a great way to get involved and practice different leadership roles that can help you in the future. 
 
If these aren’t enough reasons to get more involved and join Greek life on your college campus, talk to those involved in Greek organizations and get their first-hand experiences and advice! Greek life is a lot more than it appears to be and it’s great to be part of something that can give you a lot of benefits and smiles!
