Campus Celebrity: Luke Frey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Meet Luke Frey. Maybe you’ve seen him on campus when he has classes just two days out of the week, or maybe you’ll see him the next time you go on Netflix to binge-watch House Of Cards.

The sophomore media studies and production major from Shippensburg, PA, says that despite only appearing in the background, it was an honor being on a show he loves.

In addition to being an extra on House of Cards, Luke will appear on an episode of the new NBC show Mysteries of Laura starring Debra Messing, which will air a preview episode tonight.

Luke was involved with an acting agency in middle school, which he left to focus on high school. Going to college sparked his interest in acting once again, so he sent in his headshots and prepared for more days on set.

“I’m usually on set in costume for at least 12 hours of the day shooting,” he said.

This busy sophomore spends three days out of the week interning in the Creative Services Department at NBC10 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. where he helps with promotions, commercials and more.  On a school day, Luke has class from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., eats lunch, and goes back to class from 2 p.m. to 5 pm. On top of that, he has his own talk show on TUTV titled “Temple Talk,” which he created last year.

“I thought there should be some kind of young adult sort of round table talking about college issues,” he said. “What better place to have a college talk show other than on a college TV station?”

Luke’s interest in television started in sixth grade, when he went to a live taping of Live With Regis and Kelly.

“After that I was like, I need to do this everyday. Why doesn’t everyone want to do this?” Luke said.

So what’s next for this aspiring TV mogul?

“Ten years from now I would love to be working on a show in New York,” Luke said. “I love New York. After I grab my diploma, the car is going straight to New York.”

He dreams to one day be a co-host on Live with Kelly and Michael.
