Dan Butsko Hopes to Bring Southern Charm to Homecoming Court

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Known as a passionate and well-involved student, senior Dan Butsko hopes to be crowned this year’s Homecoming King. Originally from Irving, Texas, Butsko moved to Philadelphia and quickly got involved in life at Temple. Now he is a proud Resident Assistant of the Leadership Living Learning Community, a Diamond Leader with the Office of Leadership Development, and the President of Temple Ad Club. With aspirations to travel the world after graduating, this double major in advertising and Spanish language, literature and linguistics seeks to contribute and give back to various communities.

If you were a salad, what ingredient would you be and why? “I would be the croutons because I add a fun and interesting ‘crunch’ to situations that may normally be uninteresting or plain. I love meeting people and showing my outgoing personality, and furthermore, being able to brighten someone’s day with a conversation or a compliment.”

Hobbies: Playing volleyball, traveling and cooking.

Most embarrassing moment: “I don’t really get embarrassed that easily, so I can’t think of a particular instance in the recent past.”

Plans after college: “The summer after I graduate I want to travel the world. I want to go to Brazil for the World Cup, explore other parts of the U.S. and experience new things. I also hope to volunteer with the St. Bernard project in New Orleans rebuilding houses for a year after my travels have concluded. Once I have given back to the community, I would love to work at an advertising agency or design firm in New York City.”

Why should you be Homecoming King? “I think I should be Homecoming King because I can set a good example for others of what an involved and passionate student can make of their college education if really taken seriously. Not only would I like to positively represent the Temple community for other students, but to the Philadelphia community as well. I believe that taking advantage of everything this great university has to offer is how one truly becomes ‘Temple Made.’”
