The recent article and controversy surrounding Aziz Ansari started an important conversation about reevaluating how society defines the word consent and the importance of consent when sexual advances are made.
According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of consent is to give assent or approval, but there’s more to understand about consent than just people agreeing to engage sexually with each other.
In November 2017, Tonic’s article Colleges Are Doing a Shitty Job of Teaching Consent highlighted the opinions of college students from different universities on the consent education programs they went through at school. Many of the students stated that when they were freshmen, their schools didn’t strongly reinforce the matter of consent, or any type of sex education.
With that being said, Her Campus Temple has put together a survey to gauge student opinions on how Temple handles consent education and if they believe the university should make any changes to ensure students feel safe and supported.
