January, February, and March always seem to drag on during the semester. Oftentimes, it seems like we’ll never make it out of the winter or to the end of the semester. It doesn’t have to be like this for the remainder of the semester, here are some tips on how to break up the monotony of the year.

Make a plan

Making plans for any sort of activity in advance will always make the days go by faster because it gives you something to look forward to. For example, if you’re going to Owlchella, it’s time to start counting down the days until you see Jack Harlow.

Get involved

On your slower days, look for ways you can get more involved on campus. It’s never too late to join a new club, and you might find new friends while you’re there.

Try new things

It’s important to try something new every day because it stimulates your mind. For example, by sitting somewhere new in a class, you’ll be occupied with all of the new information you’ll gain from that particular angle. You could also dedicate your time to trying a new food truck on campus every day, but there’s plenty of ways you could challenge yourself in this besides eating.

Set personal goals

Similar to making plans and saving dates, having personal goals for yourself gives you something to look forward to when achieving them. These goals can be academic, like raising your GPA, physical, like lifting a certain weight, or anything in between.

Convince your brain

Even when you’re doing some of the most boring tasks, trick yourself into thinking its fun and exciting. When successful, you can help trick your brain into thinking that time is moving much faster than reality. Ultimately, our perception of time passing is dependent on where else our brains are engaged while living through that day.

Making the semester go by faster seems to be just a matter of tricking your brain into thinking time is flying by. On your boring, slow days try these tips to see how they break the day up. It’s not only fun trying new things or getting involved, but it helps stimulate your brain too. Now’s the time to take back your semester instead of letting it slip by!
