Did this show make me feel like I wanted to be in Paris? Absolutely! While Emily in Paris had some questionable outfits, I took note of some things that I definitely want to incorporate in my own closet. The fun, chic outfits made me want to walk around with a baguette and croissants in the streets of Paris. Stepping out of your comfort zone with some of Emily’s looks might be just what you need!
Although there were some mixed opinions of the show, I thought it was a light watch that was cute and fun! It was also clear to me that I definitely have to go to Paris soon! As it takes place in the fashion capital of the world, the show definitely made some fashion statements that were bold. I personally loved the eye-catching colors and mixed patterns. While some of the outfits were questionable and a lot, I understood their purpose of being perfect for Emily’s character.
While I love to see clean, nude color schemes or even all-black, classy outfits, there also comes a time when you should stand out in a crowd. It’s okay to mix patterns! The show definitely made it clear that you should take fashion risks with confidence. Emily embraced her distinctive style and was able to pull it off. (I mean when does Lily Collins ever look bad?) The message I got from the show is to wear pieces in your closet that you never usually touch because they are “too much.” Stop settling for grey sweats and step out of your comfort zone! Sometimes clashing patterns does the trick, or try color schemes that you probably wouldn’t think look good together and make it your own unique statement. You never know, the weirdest combinations just might work!
This show had hats, hats, and some more hats. Accessorizing was big in the show, and as a hat lover myself, I don’t wear them as often as I would like, but maybe this was a sign. Emily was seen in so many cute berets and eccentric hats, it made me want to incorporate a variety in my wardrobe. Was the French look pushed too much at times? Yes. Even though the show was very cliche at certain points, the rom-com made the Americanized French fashion girl come to life. With that said, there is no harm in taking a page from Emily’s book and adding a neck scarf or a bold cardigan to your collection. Do not shy away from the chic look you could deliver. Just a small, colorful purse that might not be in your comfort zone could be the perfect touch. It will definitely get you out of the quarantine schumlp, and hey, maybe you could even feel like you’re Emily in Paris for a day!
One of my favorite details about her outfits was the jackets. Jackets are always a good statement that can add so much fun to your outfit. A colorful trench coat is one of my favorite things to integrate, because it gives you a certain power. Some of the outfits were platitudes and the show was taking aspects of France to extreme levels, which is why I feel there is such a love-hate relationship with the way France was depicted because of its lack of reality. As it got strong criticism for obvious reasons, the playful yet sophisticated looks made it a joyful watch. If you think it’s too bold of a move to walk around your hometown embracing the couture, high fashion look, I say just do it! Some of the outfits just didn’t work and had patterns that were too much, but the show was built around the fantasy of Parisian life, which in my opinion isn’t all that bad. Not all outfits are going to be perfect, but that’s why there is trial and error.
Feeling crazy in your clothes is not always a bad thing. Seize the moment and maybe show some ruffles! The patch work in some of Emily’s outfits were a bit rough, but the show was not a serious depiction of fashion in Paris. So remember to keep it light and fun when going about picking your outfits! When we think back to the beginning of quarantine, and we thought going to the grocery store was the only place we could display our fashion, wasn’t it kind of fun? Try being in that mindset again and pop out some fun colors, especially with the bland winter coming up! Emily’s outfits ranged from all kinds of exciting features from head to toe, so next time you shop, try picking the crazy boots you once overlooked and make them YOU!
