Oct 18: The Color Run Philadelphia
Location: Campbell’s Field, Camden, NJ.
The Color Run was founded in March of 2011 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in the “Happiest 5k on the Planet.” This paint- run was the first of its kind and is gradually growing in popularity across the country. October 19: Aids Walk/ Run
Location: Eakins Oval (in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum)
The 5k run begins at 7:30am and the walk begins at 9am. Thousands of supporters participate in this event annually and the numbers keep growing. “In 1987, volunteers from Philadelphia’s gay and lesbian community center decided to organize a walk-a-thon to support area AIDS agencies and to raise public awareness about the disease,” according to the Aids Walk Philly website. Philadelphia’s first AIDS Walk raised $33,000. This walk/ run has become the largest annual HIV/AIDS public awareness and fundraising event. Visit the website for more information.
Nov 1: Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes
Location: Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA.
The Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes here in Philadelphia is “the largest walk in the country.” The walk includes a Kid’s Zone for the whole family to enjoy, a Health Fest to learn about and support our diabetes efforts, vendors that are focused and committed to Stopping Diabetes, and a few celebrity appearances. Registration for Step Out will begin at 8am on November 1 and there will be warm-up activities from 8-9:30am. Visit the website for more information.
Nov 21: Philadelphia Marathon and Half Marathon
Location: Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA.
The first Rotham Institute race took place in 1994. The race lasts multiple days and is a true test of endurance and athleticism. Race Weekend 2014 begins on Friday, November 21 and will end on Sunday, November 23. Race Weekend activities include the Health & Fitness Expo, Rothman Institute 8K, and Kids Fun Run—all leading up to the GORE-TEX® Marathon and Half Marathon races on Sunday. If you feel like running marathons is not the thing for you but you would still like to get involved, then volunteer! Any time and service you provide is always greatly appreciated, so try to fundraise on your own or show up to support the runners, either way you are doing your part!
