Yes! The semester is finally over! For many of us this is a relief. We get a couple weeks to relax and unwind with family and friends and celebrate one of the best holidays ever.  But, this also brings up the issue of presents. My friends from back home like to do a gift exchange every year. Gifts for them as well as for other friends and family can really add up after everything is said and done. So, I would like to share with you some of my ideas as well as some friends’ ideas about how to give gifts on a budget.Â
First, I want to share my idea with you all. I have decided to paint pictures for my family and friends this year. Canvases can get expensive, but if you choose to buy smaller canvases or check discount stores like Hobby Lobby, you shouldn’t have a problem with it. You can even use materials from your own home to paint over. Home-made gifts often mean more to people than anything money can buy because you are putting much more effort into it. I have no doubt that my friends and family will love their paintings!
My friend Jessica has a similar idea. However, instead of painting she is using her culinary skills to cook delicious treats for all her friends and family. This is a great way to share your talent as well as your love for many people. Buying ingredients for Christmas treats is not the cheapest thing. However, the ingredients can go a long way if you are making several batches for a number of people. Buying ingredients in bulk can give you the best bargain for the amount that you are getting. I’m sure everyone will love Jessica’s holiday treats. So delicious!
If you feel like you don’t have an artistic touch, home-made gifts are not your only option. There are places such as Target, Dollar General, and Goodwill that have some great items for only a few dollars. Target has a dollar section full of games, toys, and other supplies that would make a great gifts. Also, Goodwill has tons of great items to buy; you just have to take time to find the treasure you are looking for. Try sifting through the vinyls or CDs to find some great music.
These are just a few ideas to make your budget work for the holidays, but there are countless options for a great gift. Any way you look at it, your friends and family will love you for taking the time and effort to pick or make the perfect gift. Happy holidays to everyone! See you next year!
