- It’s okay to do things alone.
This one was really big for me. Before coming to college, I never did anything alone. I always invited a friend or my sisters. This is something that I’m grateful I learned. Now, instead of sitting and waiting for someone to do things with me, I feel comfortable and confident enough to do these things alone. It’s pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me develop independence.
2. Take a break.
It sounds so easy, right? I constantly had to remind myself that taking a break does not make me lazy. We all need breaks, especially when we are always working on or toward something. Taking a break allows your body and mind to rest and recover and you’ll most likely achieve better results if you listen to your body.
3. You are not alone.
I know I said that doing things alone has benefited me. This does not mean, though, that I have to face things alone. I learned to lean on my support systems and ask for help. I learned that it does truly take a village to develop into the person I want to be. Support does not make someone weak. In my opinion, it only makes them stronger.
I am so grateful that I learned these things early on in adulthood. I do not want to imagine the person I would be without this knowledge. Probably at home alone working until I couldn’t anymore. As passionate and inspired as I am to achieve everything I want for myself in this world, I also want to remember to be human. To crave intimacy and friendship. To laugh and breathe. To know and love myself the way nobody else can.
