Don’t Throw Away, Give Away!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

People today are constantly throwing away waste that continues to fill up landfills. That waste could potentially be used for another purpose and have a second life. Instead of immediately throwing away things you do not use anymore, think about what else it could be used for or who else could use it.

Before throwing something away, you could always donate those old goods. Places like Goodwill and many resale shops will take your old clothes and old house goods such as kitchen gadgets and tools, furniture, or old electronics.

Another good place to donate is at your local homeless shelter or even battered women’s shelter. People in these places are often in need of almost anything, including clothes, purses, cosmetics, hair care products, or even perishable food items. People of all ages live in homeless shelter, so do not forget that these places are looking for things for all ages. Women and children in battered shelters are often left with nothing and need anything to help them get back on their feet.

If donating is not option, you could always sell those old clothes, make-up, furniture or electronics online. There is a lot of different options and opportunities to sell online, ether on Facebook, EBay, Craigslist, or a selling app.

Before throwing something away into the landfill, always think of whether the items could be reused in a different way. They can be recycled, donated or sold. Do your part in helping eliminate the amount of waste that goes into landfills everyday.
