By: Bunmi Akindona

We all get those craving for sweets. They especially seem to show up as soon as you finally decide to start eating healthier. This is not to say that you can’t have sweets every occasionally. However too much of anything isn’t good. So instead of reaching for that bag of candy; you can have some healthy and delicious alternatives.

Cinnamon Apple Chips

What you’ll need:

2 Apples

½ teaspoon of Cinnamon

1 ½ teaspoons of Sugar

Directions

Cut the apples into thin slices

Note: if you have a mandoline or apple slicer then use that

Preheat oven to 225 degrees

Put the sugar and cinnamon in a ziplock bag and shake it to mix

Add the apple slices in the ziplock bag and shake it to evenly coat the apples

Spray a metal sheet with baking spray (or lightly coat the sheet with oil) and place the apples on the metal sheet

Bake the apple slices until they are dried and the edges curl up, 45 minutes to 1 hour

Let cool until crispy

Frozen Chocolate Banana

What you’ll need:

2 Bananas

Dark Chocolate Bar

Optional: nuts, granola, and other topping items

Directions:

Peel and cut the bananas into two equal halves and freeze

Once the banana is solid, break the chocolate bar into pieces and put it in a pan

Heat the chocolate on low heat to melt and stir often

Once the chocolate is melted, roll the banana halves in the chocolate

Feel free to add toppings onto the chocolate

Freeze the banana to let the chocolate set for at least an hour

Take out and enjoy

I am a junior at the University of Texas at Austin studying psychology and sociology. I hope to further the knowledge of behavioral and emotional disorders through research. I started writing for Her Campus because I wanted a platform to discuss issues that are important to me. I want to start a dialogue about the issues society is still too uncomfortable to openly talk about.
