Feeling Good: A Playlist to Lift Your Mood

We all have our bad days, and we just need a little pick-me-up. What better way than music – the messages that transcend words? I’ll admit, I am the type of person to listen to sad songs and just wallow in my sadness, but sometimes even I, a pessimist to the core, have to buckle up and try to bring myself back to the world of the living. So, here is a playlist of some feel-good songs!

DISCLAIMER: This is 100 percent subjective. You might not like every song, or any for that matter, and that’s okay! Anyways, on to the list.

  1. “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone

    1. I think the title of the song already gives a good idea of what it is about. You may be more familiar with Michael Bublé’s rendition of the song, but I prefer Nina Simone’s version. For one, this song always makes me feel like I am in the past, living in a spy movie. That alone is fun, but the message is also very uplifting. It’s about looking at the world with a fresh set of eyes; it’s about feeling good about yourself, and the rest of the world can see it.

  1. “Teenager In Love” by Neon Trees

    1. I get that love songs are not everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s not why I picked this song. It’s just so catchy! Whenever I am feeling down and this song comes on, I can’t help but dance and sing along. It always brings my mood up, at least for those three minutes and 17 seconds.

  1. “Scars To Your Beautiful” by Alessia Cara

    1. The message is the most important part of this song. Sometimes, you just need a reaffirming and uplifting song to sing at the top of your lungs, and this song is THAT song. The verses talk about different ways people strive toward beauty ideals at their own detriment. The chorus speaks about how we’re all worth it, how our beauty comes from within, and how we don’t need to change – things that we all need to be reminded of every once in a while.

  1. “Same Suit, Different Tie” by The Maine

    1. This song is all about how wearing the right clothes can make all the difference in how you feel. It talks about getting new, inexpensive clothes that make you feel good about yourself. It serves as a reminder to wear whatever makes you comfortable and to treat yourself to some clothes you love.

  1. “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire

    1. This song is an iconic feel-good song that has more recently resurged in popularity. There’s really not much to say about it – this is just one of those naturally carefree, happy songs.

  1. “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee

    1. I can’t speak much to the meaning of this song, but it has a nice vibe and is easy to dance to. Also, I automatically connect it to Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse, so that gives it some bonus points.

  1. “Truth Hurts” by Lizzo

    1. I’ll end this on a good breakup song. The song is about moving on and realizing that you’re much better off without your ex. It’s about hyping yourself up and claiming the fact that you’re amazing. It is SO easy to get stuck in your head, and trust me, it stays there.
