Free and Fun Things To Do In Austin This Weekend

It can be hard to find anything fun to do that doesn’t require spending money. Here are a few totally free things to do in Austin for all of the broke girlies like me.

  1. Go to a park.

Austin’s known for its connection to the great outdoors, so take advantage of it. Go read at Zilker or walk the trail at Pease Park. I mean really, when’s the last time you got any vitamin D?

2. Watch the sunset at Mount Bonnell.

Having a picnic at Mount Bonnell and watching the sunset with some friends is always a good time. Make sure to bring a blanket to sit on, and maybe a jacket since it gets chilly up there once the sun goes down.

3. Go to the Blanton Art Museum.

It’s free for all UT students. If you want to bring a non-UT friend along, it’s free for all visitors on Tuesdays.

4. Hike on the Greenbelt.

Grab a friend and put on a cute matching set (or old t-shirt and shorts, no judgment here.) You really can’t go wrong with a little hike, and most of the trails (that I know of) are pretty easy. It’s really more of a scenic walk.

5. Take a free yoga class at Fareground.

There’s one every Sunday at 10 am. There are limited spots, so make sure to RSVP on their website to join in.

6. Go to a backyard story night.

They’re hosted in different backyards around Austin. Some weeks nobody volunteers their backyard, so just check their website to RSVP and figure out the location before you go. I’ve never been, but it sounds interesting and very Austin. Make sure to bring a friend to be safe.
