Here Are Some Ways to Help the Women in your Community this March

I know you wish you could be at every rally and lift a sister up all the time, but sometimes you can’t do it all, and that’s okay! Here are some small ways you can make an impact this March and even throughout the year.

1. Donate old clothes to Women’s shelters

Every state has a women’s shelter. If you or any relatives have clothes you know you won’t wear anymore or are thinking of tossing them out, don’t! Save them and donate them to your nearest shelter; you could be providing great comfort to someone who hasn’t had a new shirt or dress in a long time.

2. Volunteer at planned parenthood

If you have any time in your day, you could help protect and comfort women and nonbinary pals going for appointments and medicine at planned parenthood. They did not ask for vaginas, but it’s important to take care of them and their bodies. You could support a gal or two in their journey or even make a donation to the cause.

3. Help stock up your school or work’s hygiene basket

Many workplaces and schools have hygiene baskets where people like to stock up on deodorant, sanitary pads, tampons, or makeup wipes. Unfortunately, these products cost a lot of money, and sometimes people who need them aren’t always prepared on the right days. If you can help stock these up, you could be saving a bestie you never knew you had. If you don’t have one at school or work, talk to your Human Resources department, your coworkers, or your student government to start one! You could even start a ” take what you need basket” on your own, and others might be encouraged to do the same.

4. Get involved at school

Many universities are home to hundreds of student organizations that sponsor mental health, refugees, women’s rights, and so much more. Get involved this March, and push yourself to continue year-round, or just March; its the thought that counts!

5. Tell your gals you love them

Lastly, remind all the women in your life that they are loved. This month is about celebrating the history of all the women who inspire and fought for women’s equality and rights, but the fight isn’t over. This month is about celebrating the current history in the making that happens with each and every one of you. You fight every day by being yourself and supporting other women. Tell your gals you love them! Go to brunch or on a hot girl walk; you deserve it!
