During the school year, I am somewhat too extremely busy. It comes in waves of being overwhelmed to having a free day to catch up on all the shows and movies I missed weekends or months before because I was busy with school work and extracurriculars. So with A24 films, I have not necessarily seen all of them, but I would say a good 60 to 70 percent of them. So here are my top five favorite A24 films I can repeatedly watch without ever getting tired (not in any particular order, of course, because that would be hard).

1.  Eighth Grade

The reason why I love this film so much is that it is relatable. The reason is that the film follows Kayla, an eighth grader, in 2017, which was the same time I was in eighth grade, so the cringe pop-culture references are spot on. Without revealing too much, the film is a coming-of-age film about Kayla’s last week of eighth grade and all the challenges of growing up and basically entering high school. Honestly, Bo Burnham killed this movie, and I definitely would recommend watching it, especially for its short run time of an hour and thirty-three minutes.

2. Marcel the Shell With Shoes On

I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I don’t even know what to say, speechless. Marcel is cute and innocent and makes me want to see the good and people in life again. Enough said. It is a simple story structure with a protagonist with a conflict, and I go through so many emotions watching it– simply amazing. I don’t even want to talk about the story to surprise you because you NEED to watch it.

3. Everything Everywhere All At Once

Also speechless; I also don’t know what to say. Just a fantastic, wild, crazy, sad– simply everything movie. So many feelings and emotions– it’s just one of the greats for that reason. I cannot explain the synopsis of this movie because I do not know where to begin.

4. Ladybird

I can simply watch this movie on repeat and not get bored. Saoirse Ronan is one of the greatest actresses and one of my favorites. In broad terms, I feel like this movie is a coming-of-age film, but I see it as more of an angsty teen with an emotionally distant mother, and the conflict between them is portrayed beautifully. The complicated emotions and lives these characters live to make the film a little bit more raw and digestible in a sense, and there’s a little bit of relatable-ness in this film for everyone.

5. Mid-90s

The first reason why I watched this film was that I heard Jonah Hill write it, and because of that, for some reason, I knew it was going to be good. The movie follows a young boy Stevie and his new friends skating and navigating life and social struggles as pre-teens. This movie is funny, sad, and heartfelt at times, and sometimes serious,

Although these are my top five, I’ll briefly list my honorable mentions that you should check out anyways.

Honorable Mentions: Aftersun, Waves, The Florida project, Bodies Bodies Bodies, The Whale, Pearl, Boys State, Moonlight

Of course, these are only a few A24 films of the total entirety of them. I definitely did not list their horror classics, but these are genuinely the ones I will never get tired of, and I am definitely the person that likes lighter films, especially when I am pressed for time. Check these out if you get a chance, and even check out the A24 website, where you can check out movies to watch.
