I am sure throughout your life your parents have enforced the idea that you have to make your bed every morning. As a kid, that would infuriate me. It was pointless. I make my bed just to eventually crawl back into it and mess it up once again. Yet, as I matured and started living on my own I have come to realize that making my bed each morning has become a part of my everyday routine.Â
Perhaps this is a part of adulthood, but my bed is my sacred place. I invested a significant amount of time, consideration, and money on my mattress and bedding. This is a place I spend a great deal of my life in. On days when I am anxious, upset, and even happy, my bed is my retreat from the world. So, my first piece of advice is to take the time to make your bed an area of comfort and serenity. Once you have done that, it is time to get into the importance and habit of making your bed every morning.
At this point, you should enjoy your bed and recognize the value of your relief. With this idea, you understand that your bed is a place you will run to after days that end in various ways. Coming home to a neatly made bed can be that one sense of joy on your hardest days. I have found that by making my bed each morning I have been more productive and developed effective habits to incorporate into my day-to-day life. Some days it can feel extremely challenging to get out of bed or to even accomplish the smallest of tasks. However, by making your bed each day, you are crossing off that first to-do item. Through this habit, it has also forced me to wake up earlier and limit the amount of time I spend lounging in my bed.
