1. Loro: Asian Smokehouse and Bar
Loro is a restaurant that combines the best of both worlds from Asian cuisine and barbeque. Created by Aaron Franklin and Tyson Cole from ‘Franklin’s Barbeque’ and ‘Uchi’ respectively, Loro provides a great space with delicious twists on classic dishes. My recommendations would have to be their sesame rice noodles, crispy potatoes with yuzu aioli and miso mustard, and Malaysian curry chicken rice bowl.
2. Gus’s World-Famous Fried Chicken
Gus’s originated in a small community in Tennessee around 60 years ago and has always, and will continue to, bring people together from all backgrounds to enjoy delicious fried chicken. The service and quality of the food here continue to bring me back for more. Obviously, their fried chicken is delicious, coming in a variety of dark and white meat with a thin spicy skin that’s super crispy. On top of their chicken, they offer some of the best-fried pickles I’ve had in all of Austin. Try this place for a taste of Southern home.
3. Franklin’s Barbecue
This may come as no surprise to anyone living in Texas but Franklin’s Barbeque is iconic for a reason. They have some of the best barbeques in Texas. If you’re thinking about trying this place it’s important to know that it’s first come first serve-meaning if you show up too late they may be all out of food for the day. There’s really nothing here that isn’t delicious but my personal favorites are their turkey, smoked sausage and brisket. They also offer barbeque sandwiches and pies.
