Does this conversation sound familiar?
Me: Hey, what do I wear tonight?
Friend: Just downtown clothes!
Me: Oh, okay.
…wait, what are downtown clothes? What does one wear downtown? Every weekend, I find myself having a mental breakdown as I try to figure out what to wear as my friends and I head to Sixth Street. The apartment floor is cluttered with various crop tops, leggings, and at least 20 different dresses, resulting with an exclamation of “nothing looks good!” All you want is your Pinterest closet to come to life! Add on top of that all of this crazy winter weather, and things get serious. After seven months in college, I think I might have cracked the mysterious code that is “Downtown Attire”, and now my lovely longhorn ladies I present to you a guide to getting dressed.
1) Jeans
Your best friend on theses frozen nights is a pair of extremely dark wash or black skinny jeans or jeggings. I’m talking about jeans that are tight enough that you have to lay on the ground in an attempt to squeeze yourself into these hip loving bad boys. This particular pair can be found at Charlotte Russe, and are my personal favorite. They are stretchy and allow for maximum comfort when wardering drunkenly back to campus after a good bar tab. The best part; a dark navy matches with any shoe and top so color coordination is never an issue!
2) Sweaters
Since you’re rocking your tight jeans, you can juxtapose with a cute, loose sweater. Your sweater should also be a dark color or a light shade of gray in order to match the winter weather. This particular sweater is from Dainty Hooligan (found at Guad and 21st street) and is the perfect way to match sexiness with the cold weather. The chiffon back gives a glimpse of your perfectly toned lower back, but the heavy fabric still provides a warmth that even the thickest of alcohol blankets can’t!
3) Boots
Wedges and cute little booties are a perfect choice for warmer nights, but when it gets really frigid out,  riding boots are cute, dry, and most importantly you can stuff four pairs of socks into these suckers without anyone ever knowing! One of the fantastic things about riding boots is that you can literally buy them in thousands of different shades, so while yes, we are all wearing the same type of shoe, and they all look extremely similar, they aren’t. Which in girl world is pretty important. An additional plus of the only practical shoe I will ever suggest you wear downtown is that they make your legs look long and thin, a plus for every collegiette around! You can find these boots anywhere that sells clothing. Anywhere.
4) Scarves
An infinity scarf is a nice alternative to a necklace, and to be quite honest, it can get cold out there bar hopping! This circle scarf keeps both your neck warm and can be pulled up over your head as a hood as well! Sure, you may look a little silly for a few minutes, but in actually sometimes, when you’ve been called to dirty Sixth, you probably make yourself look pretty silly and a scarf over your ears, won’t make much of a difference!
