Being a student is difficult. Between school, life, and wellness, it can be difficult to take care of yourself. Nonetheless, there are some small things that can help that are cost effective for students. I’ve learned that tea can be the best to help students when they’re struggling with mental or physical health. Many people don’t know how effective tea is, thinking that it’s just boiling water with some leaves. I know in my case, I always thought there was just green tea, black tea, and chamomile– little did I know that there are many more. There’s white, green, oolong, black, mate, pu’er, rooibos, and herbal teas. Each one has unique components that can help with certain things, and I’m here to tell you about five amazing teas and the beneficial qualities that come along with them!

Matcha

While sitting in lectures, I’ve noticed that many students become unfocused. They will begin to surf the internet and just lose interest in what they are supposed to be learning. This is where Matcha comes into play: matcha is known for having components that will help with focusing.

Not only does it help with focus, but it can also help suppress your appetite. Matcha is very filling, and will certainly help with that hunger you feel during those three-hour lectures. Instead of relying on unhealthy fast foods, you can quickly grab a matcha and feel a little bit better about having something healthy!

Lavender/Chamomile/Valerian

Each of these ingredients can be found in herbal teas. These ingredients help with calming and anxiety, while removing stressful tensions that may be flowing through your body during the school year. Not only will they help with those things, but if you feel you’re struggling at night with your slumber, then you can drink any one of these herbs and it will help you get a good night’s rest. It’s a spa on a budget!

Oolong

Oolong tea has a lot of positive factors to it. When you’re feeling a stomach ache coming on– whether it’s a bug or you just ate something that isn’t settling well– this tea will give you some relief. Oolong is also very well known for helping boost metabolism; it’s obviously not a weight loss tea, but it can possibly help with speeding up the process a little! Lastly, oolong will also help with increased mental clarity, which will become very helpful as a student.

Mate

As a student, your energy can be lacking. You feel tired and sluggish. Your body is just exhausted and you don’t know what to do to help. Drinking coffee three times a day may make you think you’re going to wake up, but when you realize how jittery you feel, it’s obvious that you should stop. This is where a mate tea can help us! A mate is a stimulant tea, which means it’s highly caffeinated. Packed with antioxidants and the same amount of caffeine as coffee, but with less jittery side-effects. This tea will give you that simple, but less gross feeling energy that your body has been longing for.

Rooibos

The simplest hangover cure. Students like to have fun, but not waking up the next morning and feeling like you were hit by a bus. Rooibos is known for being very hydrating, and is a great tea to help when you feel like your mouth is full of cotton. It’s also amazing for your complexion. While hydrating your body with the water it may be lacking, it also hydrates your skin, allowing for a beautiful natural glow.
