Halloween is just around the corner, but for college/university students, it’s still midterm season. As a kid, Halloween was the best holiday; free candy, dressing up, the spooky atmosphere, and the thrill of spending time outside with family and friends. But as a college/university student… forget about it. Students are already stressed and frustrated studying for midterms but imagine you’re hard at work, and the doorbell is ringing every few minutes. The worst thing to imagine right? Well, there are a few simple ways to ease that tension:
Leave a Self-Service Bowl
Leaving a self-service bowl outside is one way to prevent the doorbell from ringing. But what if the bowl is empty? When you have your study break, you can check the bowl here and there, and that’s it! A “fill it and leave it,” if you will. But if you’re living with someone, ask them to check and fill it up.
Study at the Library
If you don’t mind relocating to your local library to study, definitely give it a try. No more trick-or-treaters, no doorbells, no more up and down the stairs or trips across the house. Now you get peace and quiet, a focus-enhanced atmosphere and possibly better resources to help you study for your midterms. If you don’t want to travel to a library, a substitute solution would be studying at a friend/study partner’s house who doesn’t celebrate Halloween, maybe in a secluded area in your house and wearing headphones, or in your basement (if applicable).
Keep Your Porch Lights Off
A dark house goes without saying. Having a dark house ultimately signifies that you may not celebrate Halloween, “No Candy Here,” or this house might belong to a Halloween scrooge. All and all, no one will ever attempt to ring the doorbell if there are no decorations, let alone a dark house.
With that being said, Halloween is still the best holiday in my opinion, but it is the worst when you have a bucket load of studying instead of candy. To all my college/university students, good luck.
