Bargain Huntress: Target Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

Introducing the Bargain Huntress! Eva Niessner will guide you through bargain bins at local retailers to find the best deals!
It’s spring semester now, and what I knew before I came to college has been firmly reiterated: never, ever, ever, underestimate bargain shopping. It’s a scary two words for some people; the kind of phrase that conjures up images that are illustrated in peopleofwalmart.com. And that, my friends, is why we make use of the ultimate loophole. Target.

Target very well may be my favorite store. I like cute clothes, I like movies, I like to have Nutella and bagels and coffee, I like blankets and pillows. And I like a bargain. I have accepted this about myself a long time ago and I can stand in a store for hours, hemming and hawing about what the most price-friendly option would be. So to save some of you ladies that trouble, here are my tips about shopping at Target, which can be reached for free by riding the Goucher route shuttle here at Towson. (See? I’m saving you gas, too!)

The great thing about Target is that the clothing items do not suck. They’re a little pricier than Wal-Mart’s, but the clothes at Wal-Mart are usually either covered in fake rhinestones, have Tweety Bird on them or some unholy combination of the above. Jeans and shirts bought at Target are cute and don’t cost as much as they would at the mall. And they’re good quality. I bought a cardigan at Target in the fall for about twenty dollars and wore it all winter, no tears or rips. I mean, I wasn’t wrestling alligators or anything in it, but it’s nice when the stuff you buy for less lasts.

I got all my bedding for  college at Target as well. Compared with pricy options at PB Teen and Bed, Bath and Beyond, Target is a dream for the girl who is just moving into her first dorm. The online and in-store options are varied and fun, and there’s a lot of room to mix and match. And if you’re moving out of a dorm and into an apartment, Target has you covered there, too. Housewares might not be as fun to shop for as, say, bikinis, but there’s something to be said for knowing something will be there when you are going to a clearly marked section of the store, and having choices and good deals waiting for you.

Something else Target has a lot of? Cosmetics. Nail polish freaks myself will be satisfied with the large array of colors for less than $2 apiece, and the great thing about the makeup here is that there are both high-quality, slightly pricier pieces as well as dirt-cheap ones. This gives the buyer the option of whether or not to splurge. And don’t forget the Up&Up items. They’re Target’s store brand that are just as good as the name-brands, but for a lower price. I recommend the Up & Up apricot facial scrub, which is exactly like the St. Ives stuff but at a lower cost.

When you’re in college, you need to buy your essentials as efficiently as you can. And Target is your answer, ladies.
