Try this green and gold smoky eye for St. Patrick’s Day, for a new spring look, or just to try something new! I’ll show you step by step how to create this look on my friend Chelsea, who you might know from Her Campus Towson’s Get Healthy with Chelsea! I have the steps listed but be sure to check out the video to see how the look should look step by step.
- For a lasting and more vibrant effect, I began with an eye shadow primer on the top lid and right under the bottom eyelashes. I then lightly dusted the lids with a basic face powder to help the eye shadows to blend easily.
- Time for the color! I used mineral eye shadows for this, but you can use pressed shadows if that’s what you have or prefer to work with. I dipped an eye shadow brush in a dab of water first, patted the shadow, and swirled the brush on my hand to create a nice paste.
- Apply the green shadow on the lid and into the crease, but leave about a half an inch on the inside corner of your lid bare (near your nose). This is why…
- Apply your gold shade on the inside corner of your lid. This will brighten up the eye and add a pretty gradient green gold effect.
- Apply a black or dark brown shadow in the outer corner of your eyes (under the outside edge of your eyebrow). Try to apply in a sideways V motion (like this on your left eye<, like this on your right eye >). This dark shade will add depth to your look.
- Apply a light brown in the crease to help the bright colors blend into your skin.
Remember this rule: lighter colors go near your nose, darker colors towards your ears.
7) Apply a white eye shadow directly under the eyebrow, on the brow bone. If you have darker skin only use a bit of white, or a less intense white shadow. This shadow should not be obvious. It should highlight your brow bone and make your eyes really stand out, especially with the contrast of the darker colors.
8) Apply a brown or black eyeliner along your top lash line. Any type of liner (pencil, liquid, or gel) will work. Use black liquid or gel liner for the most intense look. Apply a black or brown pencil on your lower lash line and in the inner rim of your eye.
9) Use a Q-tip or tiny makeup brush to apply some green shadow on the outermost edge of the line under your eye, halfway across your eye. Do the same with some gold shadow on the other half of your line.
10) Curl your lashes and add a couple coats of black mascara.
11) I topped Chelsea’s look off with some bronzer on her forehead, cheekbones, along the top of her nose, and chin. I swiped a little bit of a pearly white cheek highlighter on the top of her cheekbones to give her face a nice glow. Then I added some color to the apples of her cheeks with a bit of a light pink blush.
*You can use a shimmery white shadow to highlight your cheekbones if you don’t have a face highlighter*
12) Finally, I used a lip brush to apply a simple berry lipstick (that won’t overpower the intense eyes), and dabbed a light pink gloss on for some shine.
The finished look!
